Carly (Dymond)
Certified Therapy Dog
Ada first found Carly at a Sheltie breeder several years ago and they hit it right off. Carly, a beautiful Sheltie had been headed for a life in the show ring several times, but was returned to the breeder when she wouldn’t perform. However, when she came home with Ada she went right to work as a therapy dog. She has found her place and has been happily volunteering ever since.
As a registered therapy dog both Carly and her mom, Ada have been through extensive testing and training. Carly has now been a registered therapy dog since 2007. This means Carly has been certified by a professional evaluator. She has passed a temperament evaluation which includes her behavior around people and equipment such as wheelchairs etc.
Since 2007 Carly and Ada have become regular volunteers at Beekman Center. Carly and Ada’s patient, gentle ways have enabled children with physical disabilities to improve their physical wellbeing while having fun and enjoying the company of a dog.
Carly also comes to work with Ada and where she greets and spends time with visitors to Okemos Family Chiropractic. She stays with Ada as Ada does her massage therapy and helps to provide a positive soothing environment.
Over the next year Ada and Carly will also be involved in the “Paws for Reading” program. In this innovative program, children will get to read their favorite books to Carly which will help to improve their reading and speaking skills in a fun and friendly environment.
In her off time, Carly loves just being a dog. Her favorite things are long walks and playing in the snow.
We hope you’ll stop into Okemos Chiropractic and enjoy a visit with Carly.
