What Is Chiropractic?

Very simply, chiropractic is a natural, drug-free health approach. By adjusting individual misaligned spinal bones, called subluxations, the body is freed of nerve interference allowing it to function normally without pain, stiffness or ill-health. With freedom from subluxations, you are more balanced with less stress on your muscles, bones, and nervous system. Freedom from subluxations allows your body to function normally with proper healing.

Your nervous system is the center of your thoughts, memory, learning and consciousness. Nerves control muscle tension, blood vessel openings, glandular function, spatial orientation (proprioception), pain, touch, vibration, vision, hearing, taste, temperature and other senses - nerves connect your inner and outer worlds.

Chiropractors do not treat conditions - instead, they correct a major cause of disease or lack of body harmony: the vertebral subluxation complex. Think of a healthy spine as you would good nutrition; important for general good health but especially necessary if you are suffering from any disease or condition. Vertebral subluxations are very common and often painless. That's why doctors of chiropractic suggest spinal checkups for all members of the family. You can always benefit from a healthy spine no matter what your health status.

Chiropractors adjust the spine to correct vertebral subluxations. The spine consists of 24 small bones called vertebrae stacked upon each other with a disc between each bone. This allows for a great deal of flexibility for movement but through trauma, stress, and/or chemical reactions, these bones may become misaligned. This spinal structure houses the spinal cord, an extension of the brain which controls and coordinates all functions of the body. A subluxation is a misaligned vertebra causing interference to nerve messages that flow through your body and brain. A chiropractic adjustment specifically and gently repositions the misaligned vertebrae, and instantly hundreds of bodily functions and activities are affected, the flow of nerve impulses over the spinal cord and spinal nerves is normalized and your body begins to renew and rebuild itself.
