Nutritional Response Testing (NRT)

What Is NRT and What can it do for Me? Photo of joyful person
Nutrition Response Testing is a non-invasive proven system of analyzing the body to determine underlying causes of ill or non-optimum health. NRT works in harmony with chiropractic adjustments to provide your body what it needs to heal itself. The result can lead to adjustments that hold better and an overall improvement in your health.

Our bodies are designed to heal themselves. That isn’t to say we make it easy. We live in a world where we are exposed to physical and mental stresses every day. From high stress jobs to relationships, chemicals in our foods and environment, our bodies are put under tremendous stress. The addition of NRT to your chiropractic program supports the extraordinary properties of the human cells and tissues to bring about healing and health changes exactly as nature intended. After all, our bodies are designed to heal themselves.

Who Can NRT Benefit?
• If you have one or more health conditions that won’t go away.
• If you find your adjustments don’t last as long as you think they should.
• If you have visited doctors, or even alternative practitioners, but the results were not what you expected or hoped for.
• If your health conditions are interfering with your life, maybe your career, family, or even your finances.
• If you find that, in spite of all your efforts you just don’t feel as good as you think you could. Are you not sleeping well, always tired....

How Does NRT Work?
Testing is a simple non-invasive procedure that takes about 30 minutes on your first visit. Your practitioner will be looking for “active” or “weak” reflexes. This is the body’s way of telling us where stress is occurring. Your practitioner will have you raise one arm. Then your reflexes are tested by contacting the reflex area with one hand and using the other hand to test the muscle strength of your extended arm. When the energy of a stressed organ is blocked our nervous system automatically responds by bringing additional blood flow to that area. In order to do this, your autonomic nervous system directs bloodflow away from our extremities. The result is that your outstretched arm becomes weak.

Once a stressed organ is determined your practitioner repeats testing to determine what is causing the issue by exposing the area to possible stresses. Lastly, a customized nutritional program is designed to help the body heal in that area.

NRT is a process. Your body may have multiple areas that need help. Testing will help determine what area is most in need and will begin with treating that core area first. As your body begins to respond to it’s new and improved nutrition, your needs will change. Regular follow-up scans will ensure that your program keeps up with what your body needs.

How Will my Diet Change?
Depending on your needs your diet may change very little. NRT may however, uncover allergies to foods, a build-up of heavy metals or other things that may mean you need to change some of the foods you eat or things you expose yourself too in your environment. NRT works best when the customize program is adhered to because it is based on what your body is saying it does or does not need.

Your practitioner may also determine specific supplements should be a part of your customized nutrition program. The supplements we use at OCHC are “Standard Process,” a manufacturer of whole food supplements since 1929.

How Long Before NRT Starts to Work?
Every person is different and healing takes place at it’s own rate. However, many patients see and feel results in as little as 4 to 6 weeks. The faster recoveries occur most often in those who have closely adhered to their customized nutrition program. NRT has been found to be a repeatable, and accurate way to determine where your body needs additional support. Recovery rates for NRT patients are 90% or better because it pinpoints the underlying causes of illness or less than optimal health.

A Brief History of NRT
NRT was originally developed by Freddie Ulan, D.C., N.D., C.C.N., and Lester Bryman, D.C. It was developed out of the frustration Freddie Ulan felt in seeing patients coming back to have the same sublaxations treated repeatedly, often several times each week. Although his patients received relief from their adjustments, he felt it wasn’t good enough. Furthermore, his own health crises left him further pondering why his own chiropractic adjustments were not holding for any length of time and why he continued to suffer from declining health in spite of all the things he tried. Ulan began an in depth study of why sublaxations recur. This lead him to research into nutritional deficiencies and how they can affect overall health.

Can I Afford NRT?
How many times have you read articles or stood in the health food store and wondered what supplements to take and how much? So many supplements are on the market and many are costly. NRT helps make the most of your supplementation. NRT provides customized supplementation based on what your body needs. Testing is performed regularly and your personal supplementation program is adjusted as the needs of your body change.
